BIRTH CERTIFICATE - VIRGINIA
Provides certified birth certificates for individuals born in the Commonwealth of Virginia after 6/1912. Birth records become public information 100 years after the date of the event. Prior to that time, they are available to immediate family members only. Birth certificates may be requested in person (same day service available in Richmond), via U.S. mail (5 - 10 business days), or via fax/phone/online through Vitalchek (2 - 3 business days). Regardless of request method, the following information is needed to process a request: name at date of birth, place of birth, mother's maiden name, father's name, relationship to the person on the certificate, reason for the certificate.
